Yoga for Relaxation


Yoga exercises have been known for promoting physical and mental health.
The significant exercise that has been most helpful for me in yoga for relaxation is breathing exercise. It can calm stressful breathing. Other exercise, like body stretching also aids to relax.

The purpose of stretching is to get rid of uncomfortable tension in the body so that the mind is free and can focus during meditative relaxation.

What to remember in doing yoga exercise?


Stretching should be moderate. Overdoing it may draw more energy. And it is not helpful before meditation because it weakens the alertness of mind. If you feel a bit tired, take a rest for few minutes before meditative relaxation.

Choose a Proper Stretching Exercise
Muscle stretching is helpful and advantageous to people who do a lot of physical work. If you are not this type of person, you can do simple and mild stretching just to release any tension from the body muscles.

Steps In Yoga Breathing Exercise For Relaxation

  1. Stand up straight with feet apart and hands hanging down.
  2. Breathe in deeply and hold it for eight seconds.
  3. Then release your breath gradually as you exhale, then rest.
  4. Repeat it as you wish until you feel relaxed and satisfied.


Stretching Exercise For Muscle Relaxation

Muscle stretching exercise has the same concept with breathing exercise.

Here's How:
  1. Stretch your muscle at the furthest point and yet in a tolerable level.
  2. Then hold it at the furthest stretch for eight seconds.
  3. After that release it slowly and gradually.
  4. Do it again until you feel contented and relaxed.


Actually you can make your own personal stretching exercise as long as it helps you to relax. It is just a matter of folding and bending and twisting. Please take note do not combine twisting and bending to your spine. It may cause injury according to some expert. If you want to bend your spine just bend it. If you want to twist your spine just twist it and not both at the same time. (Disclaimer: I will not be responsible for an injury that may occur in you. Just do simple stretching and you will be safe. If you are a beginner do not do complicated stretching yet. I assume you have the common sense to judge to which exercises that may injure you or not.)

If you want to follow the basic yoga exercises, make sure that they fit with your physical condition and lifestyle. But as I said it is basically stretching of muscles in a gradual motion of which you can think of any way that you think suits you.
