Getting Relaxed Through Imagery of Positive Thought


The common advice that many people received is "Think positive," of which I did not find it effective until I learn proper meditation. So positive thinking has power.

How does it work?


Imagery of positive thought is a goal in the mind that contains emotion that is positive. Like "Healthy Visualization Technique," it is a model to help the body to relax but it has a little difficulty if without using "chasm" mental technique. We will discuss this in some details below.

Before we proceed, I assume that you had read the article on "Healthy Visualization Technique For Relaxation" as reference.

Here's the Steps:
  1. Sit and Close Your Eyes
    As usual close your eyes for effective imagination. Sitting could be done on a chair or in lotus position.


  2. Honesty and Sensitivity on a Negative Emotion
    It is very important to honestly acknowledge the negative emotion that is happening within the self. Try to identify the kind of emotion that is undergoing within. Name it and capture its intensity.


  3. Never Be Diverted to the Cause of Negative Emotion
    Do not dwell much on the cause of negative emotion. Do not allow your mind to slip away from the negative emotion, such as anger and not on the person who causes the anger. Diverting from negative emotion will lessen the mind to capture the whole of it.


  4. Leap Over the "Chasm" Toward a Place of Positive Emotion
    The intensity of negative emotion is a factor that makes it difficult to shift toward positive emotion. Intensity of anger for example is so fervent that it is hard to make a pivot toward a positive emotion. The "chasm" technique will help to do the shift.
    Think of two adjacent places which is divided by a chasm. The first place lies with it the negative emotion. Dwell there for a moment and observe your feeling of anger, for example. When you finished acknowledging and owning it, you can now leap over the chasm to the other side of which positive emotion lies, like patience and understanding.

Mental leaping allows the possibility of making a choice over the emotion.
